So I know it has been awhile since I have written (I’m going to blame schoolwork…I swear that is the reason…), but I’d just like to make a quick note on Matt Stover’s official retirement.

Stover was de facto retired by last season, but now it is official, and it is good thing he is being allowed to retire as a Raven.  He was with the club from its first game in 1996 until 2008.  He finishes with a career FG % of over 80%, 4th in all time points, and the records for most PAT attempts made in a row and most consecutive games with a FG.  His nickname in Baltimore was “Mr. Automatic”, and that nickname was earned.

Matt Stover was a great player and good human being, which is sad that we still have to say that about NFL players instead of assuming it.  The man should go down as one of the best kickers in NFL history.

Goodbye Matt Stover
