No one in Indianapolis wants to see #7 on the field. Ever.

The Colts just announced that Peyton Manning will not practice this week and is “doubtful” for week 1…essentially meaning he will not play.  What’s more concerning is that his recover is going slowly and may end up with him being unable to play for awhile, and even if he does play, that it may not be on the same level of his many, many Pro Bowl-worthy seasons.

As I have previously said, this team is built around Peyton Manning: without him, they’re the worst team in the AFC South. New Colts QB and Social Security recipient Kerry Collins is simply not good enough nor learned enough in this offense to push this team to wins, and from there it gets worse (Curtis Painter, anyone?).  They have 3 tough opponents in the first four weeks: Houston, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay.  Even Cleveland in week 2 would be a possible loss if Peyton Manning is not available.  Unless Peyton can come back at near 100% by week 3 or 4, I am finding myself more and more confident that my prediction of the Colts missing the playoffs will come true.

What I can guarantee is that I will be picking the Colts to lose week 1 against Houston…and possibly many games after that.
