The best matchup of the week.

Each Week Cole and I will take look at each game and pick out our winners.  The end goal is simple: to finish the season with over 50% chosen correctly, and in doing so keeping ourselves from looking really stupid.

Without further ado, your Week 1 predictions!

  • Thursday
    • New Orleans at Green Bay (8:30pm)
      • Cole- Green Bay has looked out of synch thus far and concerns about their lack of off-season practice time might follow them in. Greg Williams, on the other hand, has been dialing up blitzes like it’s the Superbowl       24 – 17 New Orleans
      • Andy- Green Bay’s strong defense, great passing game, and home field advantage is too much for New Orleans.   28-24 Green Bay.
  • Sunday
    • Pittsburgh at Baltimore (1pm) (MATCHUP OF THE WEEK)
      • Cole- Baltimore intends to run an offensive line out for the first time against a blitz happy defense. Won’t end well.     20 – 14 Pittsburgh
      • Andy- Baltimore’s offensive line gets exposed, and Big Ben continues his impressive winning streak against Joe Flacco and the Ravens.  21-17 Pittsburgh.
    • Cincinnati at Cleveland (1pm)
      • Cole- Lucky for Dalton that he gets a very tame defense in the Browns first. Unfortunately the Browns wont be generous enough and Peyton Hillis goes off this game.     20 – 7 Cleveland
      • Andy- Welcome to the NFL Andy Dalton.  The Browns will be glad to get after the QB and pound the rock all day.  23-10 Cleveland.
    • Indianapolis at Houston (1pm)
      • Cole- Kerry Collins won’t know how teams are supposed to score more than 20 points a game as the Texans roar through the Colts.     34 – 10 Houston
      • Andy- No Peyton Manning, no victory for the Colts.  If his status changes, this will be updated, but otherwise it’s going to be a very one-sided game.  31-17 Houston.
    • Detroit at Tampa Bay (1pm)
      • Cole- Matt Stafford has looked excellent when healthy, and he’s healthy. Big game from Megatron as well. 28 – 14 Detroit
      • Andy- Tampa Bay has a good offense, but Detroit’s is better at the moment.  31-28 Detroit.
    • Philadelphia at St. Louis (1pm)
      • Cole- Bradford will go down swinging, but St. Louis is not equipped to handle a healthy Michael Vick (breathe easy Vick Fantasy owners)    28-14 Philadelphia
      • Andy- Tough opponent for St. Louis week 1, and Bradford just not ready yet to take Rams over the top against a very good opponent.  27-17 Philadelphia.
    • Atlanta at Chicago (1pm)
      • Cole- Julio Jones catches a TD his first game, Matt Ryan throws for 400 yards, and the Bears get a grim look at how far they have to climb this season.    30 – 14 Atlanta
      • Andy- No cold weather help for Chicago this early and Atlanta’s hot passing attack exposes Chicago’s defense.  Matt Ryan > Jay Cutler.  24-20 Atlanta.
    • Buffalo at Kansas City (1pm)
      • Cole- Cassell is hurt, which should mean a healthy load of Jamaal Charles and Dexter McCluster.     21 – 13 Kansas City
      • Andy- Kansas City has a good start to the season with an easy opponent and should be running all day long.  27-14 Kansas City.
    • Tennessee at Jacksonville (1pm)
      • Cole- Jack Del Rio has thrown his team under the bus now and Chris Johnson is the bus driver this week. 17- 6 Tennessee
      • Andy- Luke McCown/Blaine Gabbert era gets off to a poor start.  Chris Johnson and Matt Hasselbeck should make quick work of the Jags.  24-10 Tennessee.
    • New York Giants at Washington (4:15pm)
      • Cole- Redskins will show up, but it won’t nearly be enough. The Giants will run with authority to gel their line.     17 – 14 New York
      • Andy- A game for Eli Manning to shine.  The two-headed monster of Beck and Grossman will perform admirably, but not near well enough to win this game.  21-14 NYG.
    • Minnesota at San Diego (4:15pm)
      • Cole- The Floodgates are open, and Phillip Rivers will attack Minnesota early and often, blowing out a weakened secondary.   34 – 14 San Diego
      • Andy- San Diego finally uses their top-ranked offenses and defenses to win games.  Minnesota is the first to feel Rivers’ wrath.  30-17 San Diego.
    • Carolina at Arizona (4:15pm)
      • Cole- Arizona shows off their new weapon in Kevin Kolb. Cam Newton does a lot of scrambling. Ron Rivera says he played well but needs work.     21 – 3 Arizona
      • Andy- Cam Newton begins his schooling.  Kevin Kolb should begin to get more comfortable facing a relatively easy opponent week 1.  24-10 Arizona.
    • Seattle at San Francisco (4:15pm)
      • Cole- Seattle will be alright this season. Should feature a healthy dose of Marshawn Lynch and Alex Smith mistakes.    13 – 6 Seattle
      • Andy- I hate both teams.  This outcome depends on whether or not Alex Smith has a good day or bad day.  My guess is good day.  17-14 San Francisco.
    • Dallas at New York Jets (8:20pm)
      • Cole- Romo’s back, and its lucky he’s quick because no one likes to celebrate by blitzing more than Rex Ryan. Sanchez struggles early, finds Santonio late.   21 – 17 New York
      • Andy- Tony Romo’s comeback gets beaten down by an emotional Jets playing in NYC on 9/11, as well as their stifling defense.  20-14 NYJ.
  • Monday
    • New England at Miami (7pm)
      • Cole- The Dolphins will test the new Patriot line and the Patriots will be the Patriots. Only humidity could save the Dolphins here. 21 – 9 New England
      • Andy- Nothing to really say here, except that Brady > Henne, and NE > MIA.  28-17 New England.
    • Oakland at Denver (10:15pm)
      • Cole- Oakland sticks with their opening night pattern. Run DMC, Bush, and a little bit of Taiwan Jones, along with a couple deep shots.   20 – 10 Oakland
      • Andy- Has Denver’s defense improved enough to stop Darren McFadden?  I believe it has, and at home they beat Oakland this year.  17-13 Denver.
